ELLE & G4 - episode 2: Assessment

Today we meet for the second instalment of ELLE & G4, featuring Geoffroy Lequatre and Morgane Moinard. The former professional rider has taken on the task of helping Morgane, a seasoned athlete, to prepare for the www.parisnicechallenge.com/us/">Paris-Nice Challenge which will take place in five weeks’ time. Want to know more about them? Find their profiles here.

This time, the pair meets outside for the first session on the bike where Geoffroy will evaluate Morgan’s form. A necessary first step in setting up Morgan’s training programme for the 80km challenge that she’ll be facing in five weeks.

Let’s start this session with a video of Geoffroy Lequatre and Morgane Moinard as they traverse the legendary Cap d’Antibes.

Let’s eavesdrop on their meeting to learn more about their progress. We ask Geoffroy about what he’s observed and Morgane’s progress.

G: I think your physical condition is good and that you are very motivated. This last point is essential to achieve the right preparation for your first competition, the www.parisnicechallenge.com/us/">Paris-Nice Challenge.

You want to register a good performance at the beginning of the season, and it shows. For you, it’s not just about regaining fitness after the holidays; it’s a real personal challenge. Like everyone else, your routine has been disrupted and you need to establish an adequate and balanced diet to achieve your objectives during the www.parisnicechallenge.com/us/">Paris-Nice Challenge.

Morgane, how do you feel now that you have more information about how to prepare for the www.parisnicechallenge.com/us/">Paris-Nice Challenge?

M: I have looked at the route of this challenge in detail. It’s not immediately obvious but I think it will be quite hard thanks to the climbs. When one thinks of the Cote d’Azur, one thinks of the beach, but the roads in the hinterland are steep and I’m scared. Nevertheless, you are there to help me and now I know what I need to do to be at my best on the day.

In addition, thanks to G4, whatever the weather conditions, whether it’s hot or cold, I’ll always have suitable kit for training and racing!

Find the kit Morgane will be wearing in this link.

With the evaluation completed, what’s next on the training schedule?

G: So for the next two weeks, we’ll start with three rides a week of 2 to 3:30 hours maximum. In your case Morgane, it is important to take into account your other sporting activities. We will schedule your rides around these other activities, taking account also of your work schedule. I must say that you do a lot [of sport]!

To summarise, a busy schedule awaits Morgane but fortunately she’s more motivated than ever. The key to this training programme is the co-ordination of its objective with her other physical activities and rest periods. Thanks to this programme, she will be getting back into the saddle in a progressive manner which respects her workload as both a mother and a sports teacher.

That concludes this episode ELLE & G4. We’ll meet again at the beginning of next week for the next instalment where we’ll have our first serious training ride.

We encourage you to do the same on the roads of the Cote d’Azur!
