Back to the week of the Tour Metropole Nice Côte d'Azur

The Tour Metropole Nice Côte d’Azur took place from 17 to 23 June 2018, so here is a summary of this exceptional cycling event around the Côte d’Azur region and its magnificent landscapes.

On June 17, 2018, participants of the Tour Métropole Nice Côte d’Azur set off for 7 stages in which all the passes of the region were taken, a busy program that was worthwhile for all the riders. Our G4 brand was the official partner of the event, it was a great pleasure for us to provide all riders with the official dress of the event but also to present our brand to all those who did not know it yet.

Throughout the week, the riders have discovered the wonderful landscapes of the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropole between sea and mountains. The course consisted of 6 stages in line and a time trial.

Tour de métropole

The first stage, was raced between Nice and La Colmiane, a 110km stage with 3400m of ascending elevation. At the start of this stage the participants climbed the famous Col d’Eze, often used by professional riders during the Paris-Nice. The rest of the stage was just as difficult with a continuous climb descent with the ascents of the Col de Peille, Braus, Turini, and an arrival at the top of the Colmiane. A very difficult stage for the riders, but beyond the difficulty the riders enjoyed beautiful landscapes and share friendly moments on the road and support each other.

The second stage, led our riders from Saint-Martin-Vésubie to Valdieri Thermes, an arrival in Italy, which like France shares the passion for cycling. The marathon stage of the week since the riders have traveled 166km. A very mountainous stage too, with the ascent of the Col de Tende at almost 2000 meters above sea level, including a gravel section of 5km.

The 3rd stage Thermes de Valdieri Auron 104km. For this third stage, the Tour has taken a little more height, indeed the Col de la Lombarde one of the most beautiful passes of the Mercantour, with its lakes at the summit offered a unique panorama, stood in front of our riders with its summit at 2350 meters above sea leve. Once again an arrival at the summit this time in Auron famous for its winter sports destination.

The 4th stage, a mountain time trial. Indeed this exercise has become more widespread in cyclinc competitions. For this solitary effort, the organization has chosen the highest peak in Europe, the famous Col de la Bonnette, a 25km climb and a summit at 2800 meters above sea level, which testifies to the difficulty that our riders surpassed. In addition to the Tour de Métropole riders, the Bonnette Trophy riders took part in the challenge. On the occasion of this time trial, several sports personalities have done us the honor to join us. We received the visit of Warren Barguil and Amael Moinard, both members of the Fortuneo-Samsic team, in preparation for the next Tour de France, the two riders wanted to participate in the time trial to test themselves, view of the big meeting that awaits them. Alexandra Louison STC Nutrition ambassador, partner of the Tour Metropole also joined us and participated in the event. We congratulate Jérémy Defaye for his climb in a time of 1h14min which earned him the victory of the day.

The 5th stage extended from Auron to the summit of the Col d’Allos for a distance of 130km. For this new day, the riders have covered more than 3000 meters of ascending elevation, they had to face the Col de la Couillole, Col des Champ and Col d’Allos.

The 6th stage of 94km, the shortest of this Tour but not least led our runners from Auron to Vence.
2 great climbs on the program Col d’Allos and its fantastic descent to reach Barcelonette and finally the Bonette climb by its Jausiers ide.

The 7th stage. For the last stage of this exciting Tour de Métropole Nice Côte d’Azur, the riders have taken the roads of the middle country, then they climbed the Col de Vence and they join sea for an arrival on the mythical Promenade des Anglais.

Thus ends this wonderful journey of a week through the wonderful landscapes of our region. The awards ceremony and closing party was held at the “Park Phoenix” in front of the Promenade des Anglais, the opportunity for all riders to share one last moment together. As the official partner G4 wishes to congratulate Benoît Culiez the winner of the event for his incredible performance, Laurent Stacul who won the points jersey and Nicolai Thoning winner of the green jersey.
