PARIS NICE: COL DE TURINI CLIMB

At G4, we have drawn a parallel between cycling and cars! Remember our article “Cycling and cars, a partnership that matches!”. Our G4 x MINI PARIS collection is the perfect illustration!

At the occasion of Paris Nice « The Col du Turini « is still a pure example of the existing proximity between these two sectors.

You necessarily know this legendary mountain, The Monte Carlo Rally pass by every year or almost! It’s magnificent twisty roads, its formidable landscape of High Mountain. 50 km only from the sea and the Promenade des Anglais! It may be more distant memories, it is granted, but The Tour de France has also borrowed this sumptuous climb of the Côte d’Azur three times (1948-50-73).

This year, it’s Paris Nice, the race to the sun, which makes a stop at 1607 meters of altitude! What a step! After a tough week in bad weather, fighting against the wind and the clock, the riders will probably compete for the general classification, on the thought slopes of  the Turini .

Few months ago, the G4 team had climbed the Turini through the village of Lantosque and La Bollène-Vésubie.

Find out the details of this amazing ride in on our article “Parcours pro # 1: Col de Turini”. We will give you some advice, how to approach this climb? What is his profile? How to equip yourself in this changing weather period?  Find out the Good Tips!

Turini by “La Bollène Vésubie” side

To begin, you must know that the col of Turini is a thought Col, whatever the side you will climb! Of course, if the Turini is going to be the judge of peace of this 77th edition of Paris Nice, it is not a coincidence … the slope at the bottom of La Bollène Vésubie reserves many surprises to the riders!

Indeed, this climb does not offer respite for the 15 km of ascent it offers. You only have 1,5km of the climb with an average slope less than 5%. The rest will oscillate between 6 and 11% average! Plan to get adapted gear for such a climb!

An adequate equipment

The Côte d’Azur is probably one of the places where the weather is most lenient in March. Season averages are often overwhelmed and the sun is on. Be careful however to the « col de Turini »!

The weather can change dramatically in few minutes. Temperatures approach 20 ° C at the seaside, we will be around 5 or 6 ° C at the top of the Turini. You can get rainy weather or even snowy conditions according to the periods of the year

Your outfit may change depending on the starting point of your journey! In any case, G4 is able to dress you to be at your best to climb this legend… Cycling is a pretty hard sport to have more to worry about your equipment!

For these periods of the season in March G4 prefer to recommend a mid-season outfit, a long tights and a long sleeve jersey add to underwear if the weather is cool! Second option, in case of mild weather, you can opt for a bib short and short jersey, why not our Mediterranean collection? You have to complete this short Kit with warmers. Legs and arms warmers are ideal for this mid-season!

Finally, once up, a fresh wind may be lacking, that’s why we recommend our light windbreaker « Sirocco » or even our rain system jacket (which is very light and fits easily in the pockets)

Equip yourself properly, as we said earlier, the weather is changing quickly in the mountains and you may be surprised by a storm or a light rain!

You know now, how to approach the Turini by La Bollène-Vésubie and make it up as the pros will do tomorrow at Paris-Nice!
