G4 Birthday Tribute: Jose Cayetano Sarmiento Tunarrosa

If Jose were a footballer, with that long name his jersey would be one of the more expensive! But he’s not a footballer, he’s a cyclist with Cannondale Pro Cycling with whom he’s currently enjoying his third season and riding in the Volta a Catalunya.

We understand banana cakes are popular in Colombia so we’ve been busy in the G4 kitchens. For his 27th birthday, we’ve made him a banana layer cake, sandwiched and covered with cappuccino meringue butter cream.  That’ll help him, and the rest of the team, replenish the calories burnt keeping warm on the last two mountainous stages in the race.

Since joining the team Jose has worked tirelessly, mainly as team-leader support in the mountains, and was rewarded  a couple of seasons back with the mountains’ jersey in the Criterium du Dauphine. Doesn’t he look simply splendid in his spotted jersey?

But Jose’s not just effective in the mountains. He won a 75km criterium, the Circuito de Combita, back home in Colombia at the start of this season.
