Cannondale Chairside Chats: Damiano Caruso (part two)

Yesterday in part one we kicked off our chat with Damiano Caruso talking about style. Today we’re talking substance, we’re discussing races.

G4: You’ve done well in races on Italian soil but which are the races you would most like to win and why?

DC: I’m Italian so of course I’d love to win the Giro d’Italia. This year I’m so looking forward to riding my first Tour de France. In general, I love the grand tours and I feel I go best in three-week races.

G4: Were you good at any other sports before cycling or are there other sports you undertake in the .off-season or for cross-training?

DC: When I was younger I played football which I still enjoy. But in the off-season I like to go diving in the waters off Sicily – it’s so amazing. And I also like fishing. But I don’t keep the fish, I throw them back.

G4: Every team is full of different personalities, who’s the person at Cannondale who makes you laugh the most?

DC: That’ll be our Directeur Sportif Dario Mariuzzo. He’s a great character, always pulling our legs!

G4: Cycling is becoming a more global sport and the team is racing on many continents. Are there places you’ve particularly enjoyed racing/visiting? I love the mountains. I really enjoyed riding in Colorado last year. It’s just so big and, of course, the Dolomites. How could you not love those? I also love my home town of Ragusa in Sicily, that’s beautiful too.

We’ll have the final part of our chat tomorrow and, the following day, a video where G4’s Petra points the microphone at a bashful Damiano.
