As well as being a professional cyclist, Ivan Basso is also a blueberry farmer. So, we’ve made him a birthday cake which sandwiches layers of lemon sponge with luscious, purple, home-made, blueberry jam and whipped cream. Ivan’s recently returned from climbing Kilimanjaro so probably doesn’t need to worry about a few extra calories on his 37th birthday.
He started cycling when he was just three year’s old and he’s always loved the sport, as he explains here in this interview which looks back over his long career just as he embarks on a new adventure with Tinkoff-Saxo which reunites him with Bjarne Riis for whom he rode 2004-7. This time around his role is likely to be that of experienced road captain.
